Financial Inclusion and its Impact on Inequality at Varying Stages of Development
This study examines how financial inclusion impacts income inequality across underdeveloped, developing, and developed economies using OLS regression on data from 2004–2022. Analyzing nine countries, it finds that in underdeveloped economies, banking sector depth significantly reduces inequality. In developing economies, deposits reduce inequality, but increased banking access may worsen it. In developed economies, banking depth helps reduce inequality, while higher GDP per capita correlates with increased inequality. These findings highlight the varied effectiveness of financial inclusion across economic stages and suggest tailored policy approaches to promote equity through inclusive financial systems.
