Characterization of structure, composition, and fluorescence behavior of natural blue and purple sodalite

In this article, the composition, structure, and fluorescence properties of natural blue and purple sodalite were investigated. The results show that irregular elemental substitutions within the sodalite structure lead to varying degrees of changes in unit cell volume and lattice parameters. The 1∏g→1∏u electronic transition of the S2− results in a step-shaped absorption peak centered at 675 nm, while weak emission peaks around 450 nm is related to the 3P0.1→2S0 electronic transitions of S2-type ions such as Mn2+. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the basic physicochemical properties of sodalite and broaden its potential applications as a luminescent material.
