HISTOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF THE NEUROPROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF CARICA PAPYA LEAVES EXTRACT ON HALOPERIDOL-INDUCED PARKINSONISM ON THE BRAIN OF WISTAR RATS
In this study, we thoroughly investigated the potentials of haloperidol in inducing parkinsonism and the neuroprotective effect of carica papaya leaves extracts as an anti-oxidant.This research analyzes how carica papaya leaves extract can improve the biochemical parameters (markers of oxidative stress and neuroinflammatory markers) as well as the effects of haloperidol on the brain histo-architecture.Result revealed the mitigation of haloperidol-induced parkisonism on behavioral studies, markers of oxidative stress (CAT, MDA, GSH, SO), cytokines (IL-6, IL1-β, TNF-α) and dopamine with concomitant amelioration of haloperidol-induced histopathological damage on the brain of Wistar rats. The therapeutic properties of CPL extract are multifaceted, therefore, it can be explored in further studies for treatment of parkinsonism.
