Practice Snacks and the Dual-Career Singing Voice Teacher
Abstract: The editor-in-chief considers the special concerns of the dual-career voice teacher, defined as "a teacher of voice who is simultaneously managing their own singing career." She discusses this cohort's particular challenges to staying vocally healthy, vocally fit, and mentally inspired to keep singing, and offers solutions backed up by research, including advocating for less voice-intensive teaching loads, exerting self-discipline by talking less during teaching, and swapping out weekend-warrior practice habits for shorter, deliberate practice sessions she calls "practice snacks." The article concludes with a condensed practice snacking guide and an announcement about the journal's internship.
