The bridges of the Panama Canal
The Panama Canal divide the American continent into two, which means that transportation links between the northern and southern parts of the continent are provided by bridges. Currently, there are three road bridges over the canal: – Bridge of the Americas, a steel truss bridge built in 1962, – The Centennial Bridge, a concrete cable-stayed bridge built in 2004, – Atlantic Bridge, a concrete cable-stayed bridge built in 2019. These are innovative and interesting structures, situated in an environment that is aggressive due to corrosion.
