Género y cuidado de personas mayores: Hacia una correcta democratización de los cuidados

Aging is one of the demographic phenomena that garners significant attention in academic literature, but the care of older adults should be framed within broader perspectives on caregiving work, gender equity, and territorial considerations. This article aims, through a comparative and qualitative study among three municipalities in the Valencian Community, to diagnose the current situation of care provision and reception in old age. As a result of this initial approach, the following findings were noted: 1) insufficient benefits, services, and information regarding care; 2) inadequate institutional articulation and coordination; 3) reproduction of gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequalities. All of this makes it difficult for the development of comprehensive care policies in the face of the existing inequalities between rural and urban contexts, ultimately increasing the rights violations faced by woman caregivers and older adults. To address this challenge, the text proposes a series of actions as a roadmap toward the democratization of care.
