OPERATIONS OF AQUACULTURE EXPERIENCES: THE CASE OF THE PROVINCE OF AGUSAN DEL NORTE
Aquaculture has emerged as a vital contributor to food security and rural development in the Philippines, yet its sustainability is increasingly challenged by environmental, logistical, and organizational pressures. This qualitative case study explores the operational realities of aquaculture cooperatives in Agusan del Norte, drawing on the lived experiences of cooperative leaders. By focusing on how people make sense of their own experiences and a descriptive single-case study design, the research captures insights from key informants through in-depth interviews. The study identifies three core themes: environmental and climate-related disruptions, logistical and human resource constraints, and the strategic responses employed by cooperatives to maintain operational stability. Findings reveal that adaptive leadership, transparent governance, and equitable resource management are central to overcoming systemic challenges. Moreover, the integration of monitoring systems and member engagement practices enhances cooperative resilience and productivity. This research contributes to the discourse on sustainable aquaculture by emphasizing the role of localized governance, participatory decision-making, and continuous capacity development. It offers practical recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders to support cooperative-led aquaculture through targeted interventions, technological innovation, and inclusive policy frameworks
