HYDROLOGICAL MODELING WITH REMOTE SENSING AND GIS FOR DETERMINATION OF HYDROELECTRIC POTENTIAL IN RIVER BASINS WITHOUT FLOW MEASUREMENTS

In hydrology and water resources studies, satellite images provided by Remote Sensing (RS) methods and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been used in recent years. With satellite data, fast and economical solutions can be obtained compared to ground measurements. In this study, IRS P6 was used to determine the land use for the Solaklı Basin, and stereo IRS P5 satellite data was used to create the Digital Elevation Model (SYM). SYM was used to create the basin's flow direction and surface flow maps. SYM was analyzed in the GIS software to create the basin's synthetic drainage network. The sub-basins feeding the station points determined at the intersections of the branches on this drainage network were determined in the GIS environment. In the final stage, the topographic parameters of the sub-basins were calculated. The precipitation data of the meteorological stations in the basin and neighboring basins were evaluated with the kriging method and the basin's isotonic map was created. Topographic parameters and average areal rainfall information were used in the flow equation obtained by multiple regression to calculate the flow values of the station points.
