L'histoire entre judiciarisation et tyrannie mémorielle dans la vision du grand l'historien Hédi Saïdi /"History between Judicialization and Memorial Tyranny in the Vision of the Great Historian Hédi Saïdi".

Dr Maria Costea (2025 conf), L’histoire entre judiciarisation et tyrannie mémorielle dans la vision du grand l'historien Hédi Saïdi /"History between Judicialization and Memorial Tyranny in the Vision of the Great Historian Hédi Saïdi". in HISTOIRE ET MEMOIRES / History and Memories, Colloque international en hommage au Prof Hedi SAIDI, BOOK OF ABSTRACTS, SOUSSE UNIVERSITY, TUNISIA, 17 APRIL 2025. Abstract: The historiographical work of Hédi Saïdi stands out for its critical approach to contemporary processes of the judicialization of history and what he calls the “tyranny of memory.” His reflection invites us to analyze how memory laws—although based on the legitimate need for recognition and symbolic reparation—may risk restricting academic freedom and creating a climate of intellectual constraint for historians. This contribution will examine how Hédi Saïdi addresses these complex issues through a comparative reading of the French and Tunisian contexts. It will highlight the dangers of an excessive use of legal instruments in the management of conflicting memories, as well as the ethical responsibility of historians in the face of the politicization of historical remembrance. Keywords: Hédi Saïdi, judicialization, tyranny of memory, academic freedom, memory laws, comparative history France–Tunisia, historian’s ethics.
