Engaging Society in Research: From inspiring dialogue to concrete participation

The NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (NHL Stenden) organised the Online Workshop ‘Engaging Society in Research: From Inspiring Dialogue to Concrete Participation', which was given by Margaret Gold of Leiden University May 22 13h00 – 15:00 CEST 1. Brief description of the WS Citizen science actively involves the public in scientific research that generates new knowledge or understanding, and thus has the potential to bring together science, policy makers, and society as a whole in an impactful way. Margaret Gold is a researcher and coordinator of the Citizen Science Lab at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on the ‘Science of Citizen Science’ . 2. Target audience It is open to everyone but will be particularly relevant to researchers, students and staff members who are connected to higher education insitutions in the RUN-EU project. 3. Questions addressed - What does a citizen science project entail? - What are the benefits of citizen science? - In what ways can citizens contribute to projects? - How to start with a citizen science project? 4. Learning outcomes After the workshop you know how cititzens can contribute to every phase in the research life cycle, the varying levels of participation. But most of al you know a lot of cases of citizen science projects and are inspired to involve citizens in your (next) project.
