Algorithmic Phase-Locking: How Social-Media Recommenders Accelerate Serendipitous Discovery in Quantum-Bio-Cognition Research
We argue that the seemingly "magical" way Facebook's recommender surfaces niche scientific articles is not coincidence but a form of algorithmic phase-locking. Recommenders act as an external coherence field—analogous to ocean-wave interference in our QBC model—lowering classical entropy in the knowledge landscape and making predictive information (I) readily available with minimal cognitive energy. By diarizing 90 days of feed-driven discoveries, we show a 2.7x acceleration in cross-disciplinary linkage formation compared to manual search, at the cost of a 15% topic-diversity contraction. We propose design principles for "Serendipity-Safe" AI feeds and position algorithmic resonance as the digital counterpart to physical phase-anchors such as ocean waves.
