IOT in Smart Agriculture Challenges Opportunities and Future Directions

The Internet of Things (IoT) has changed agriculture by enabling real-time monitoring, automation, and data-leading decisions, which have improved productivity, efficiency, and stability. With the increase in the global population and environmental challenges, the use of smart agricultural resources has become necessary to adapt, reduce waste, and ensure food security. This research examines the role of the IoT in smart agriculture, highlighting its applications, challenges, opportunities, and future directions. Important applications include accurate agriculture, automatic watering, house dyro monitoring, smart greenhouses, and supply chain adaptation. Despite these advances, many challenges prevent the adoption of IoT, such as connection problems in rural areas, high implementation costs, data security problems, and a lack of standardized guidelines. However, the IoT presents important opportunities, including an increase in productivity, efficient resource management, and an increase in decisions through AI and Big Data Analytics. Emerging trends in the study, such as 5G connection, AI-operated analysis, and blockage chain for traceability and automatic agricultural robotics, will shape the future of smart agriculture. It is important to meet technical, economic, and policy-related challenges when using extensive IoT in agriculture. This study provides valuable insights into farmers, agricultural activities, decision makers, and researchers, leading them to the development of permanent and technology-driven agricultural practices.
