FOODLINK: A WEB- BASED SOLUTION FOR FOOD WASTE AND HUNGER
Food waste has become a critical global issue, with nearly one-third of all food produced for humanconsumption—approximately 1.3 billion tons per year—going to waste, according to the Food and AgricultureOrganization (FAO). At the same time, a significant portion of the global population continues to suffer fromhunger and malnutrition, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO).This paradox highlights the urgent need for a solution that addresses both food wastage and food insecurity. Thisproject proposes a Web-Based Food Waste Management System that acts as a bridge between food donors—suchas restaurants, hotels, and event organizers—and receivers, including orphanages, old age homes, and NGOs. Thesystem allows donors to upload details and images of leftover food, while registered NGOs can view and requestthe available food based on location. Once a request is accepted, the food can be collected and distributed to thosein need. The platform not only helps reduce food waste but also contributes significantly toward feeding theunderprivileged, thereby promoting sustainable development. By leveraging technology for efficient foodredistribution, this system offers a scalable and impactful solution to one of the most pressing issues faced bymodern society.
