Sympto-Intel: Decoding Symptoms, Delivering Solutions

Prescribing appropriate medications in clinicalsettings is a complex task that requires evaluating patientsymptoms, medical history, potential drug interactions, andcontraindications. Traditional decision-making processesoften rely on manual assessments and generalizedguidelines, which can lead to prescription errors andinefficiencies. To address these challenges, theMedicine/Drug Recommendation System offers a smart,AI-powered solution that leverages Natural LanguageProcessing (NLP) and vector similarity search to providecontext-aware drug recommendations in real time. The system accepts unstructured textual input—such assymptoms, diagnosis notes, or patient context—andprocesses it using a combination of tokenization, lemmatization, and stopword removal with tools likeNLTK. It then utilizes Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)to extract medical themes, which are embedded into highdimensional vectors. These vectors are matched against apre-indexed vector database of drugs stored in Pinecone, using cosine similarity to ensure accurate and relevantrecommendations.Developed using Python, Gensim, NLTK, and a modernReact-based web interface, the system provides healthcareproviders with intuitive access to critical pharmacologicalinsights, including dosage, indications, andcontraindications. Designed for integration with ElectronicHealth Records (EHRs), the platform supports real-timedecision-making, particularly in time-sensitive orresource-limited environments.
