Creoleon lugdunensis

Creoleon lugdunensis (Villers, 1789) Myrmeleon lugdunensis Villers, 1789: 63. Type Locality: Unknown, probably France (near Lyon [Lugdunum]). Myrmeleon pallidipennis Rambur, 1842: 394. Type Locality: Not yet fixed, syntypes from Spain (Andalusia) and France. Creoleon maurus Navás, 1923c: 340. Type Locality: Tunisia (Sousse). World distribution: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Hungary, Iran, Israel, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey [not India] (Rambur 1842: 395; Navás 1923c: 340; Ghosh & Sen 1977: 302; H. Aspö ck et al. 2001: 421, 434, 447; Canbulat & Kiyak 2002: 415; Stange 2004: 140; Canbulat 2007: 44; Ábrahám & Giacomino 2020: 41; Oswald 2024a). Note: The mix-up of the names and synonyms for the species C. lugdunensis and C. plumbeus is a reason for the species name seen in articles about Indian fauna. The junior synonym of C. plumbeus from India, Creoleon murinus, was originally mentioned by Navás (Navás 1931b: 83). C. lugdunensis was thought to be synonymous with the species names C. plumbeus and C. murinus by Ghosh & Sen (1977). The species name C. lugdunensis in the Indian checklists (Ghosh & Sen 1977: 302; Ghosh 1983a: 86; Sharma & Chandra 2012: 487) is referred to in the faunistic data of C. murinus given by Navás (Navás 1931b: 83). It is necessary to remove the species’ name from the Indian faunal lists (Suryanarayanan et al. 2024b: 6).
