Performant Python Patterns: Small changes to speed up your Python code
Python is a highly accessible programming language commonly used by researchers, most of whom are not formally trained programmers. It's easy to get software working with Python, and equally as easy to overlook the requirements for your Python code to be performant. This interactive talk presents multiple versions of common Python programming patterns, attendees will have the opportunity to vote (via Wooclap) for which they think is fastest or the expected speedup, before the answer is displayed and explained.Writing performant code is often overlooked but can increase research productivity, improve shared resource availability (e.g. HPC) and reduce energy usage. This talk aims to expose how some small changes to Python code, and using packages such as NumPy and pandas correctly, can lead to big performance improvements.
