KEY DRIVERS OF VOCAL PERFORMANCE SKILLS AMONG UNDERGRADUATES IN CHENGDU'S HIGHER MUSIC EDUCATION
ABSTRACT Aim: The research intends to investigate the determinants influencing voice performance capability among collegiate music students in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Background: The cultivation of musical talent predominantly transpires through vocal performance, usually within higher education institutions. Despite the emphasis on vocal training, there remains a deficiency in understanding the factors that contribute to enhanced vocal performance in Chinese educational institutions. Most studies address isolated topics rather than examining their interconnections. Objective: The research aims to investigate the influence of teacher professionalism, school resources, parental support, cultural backgrounds, and self-efficacy on students’ voice competencies. A thorough literature review is conducted to identify the primary factors of vocal performance through thematic analysis. Results: The study revealed that kids’ vocal abilities are enhanced by proficient educators and ample educational resources, while familial support and cultural influences also significantly contribute in a more intricate manner. Simultaneously, pupils’ self-beliefs influence the previously indicated effects on their voice performance. Conclusion: This suggests that singing colleges should focus on all facets by improving instructor competencies, providing additional resources and equipment, and addressing cultural considerations. It enhances the understanding of vocal performance and provides valuable recommendations for music education programs in Chengdu and beyond.
