The living conditions of the Koothars in Silappadhikaram
Although Ilangovadigal has called Silappadhikaram “a poem that is sung by the people of the country”, scholars are very fond of calling it a drama or a three-Tamil poem. The reason for this is that there is a lot of information about the structure of the poem and the arts of the poem.Silappadhikaram has not only been made into a film twice, but it is also being performed by various groups in the form of a play and dance. Many people have also written literary plays based on the Silappadhikara story. For example, the Silappadhikara drama written by poet K. Thirumeni can be mentioned. Some people have taken a couple of chapters and written them as one-act plays.A fragmented version of the Silambam is still being performed in the form of a ‘Kovalan Kathiya’ in small villages. Therefore, looking at all this, it can be said that Silappadhikaram is a collection of koothukalanjam. Koothuks were appreciated during the period of the double Kappadhikara. Koothuks were also prosperous. This can be described as the period when the influence of the Koothars reached its peak.
