Physicochemical Analysis of freshwater Powai Lakes in Mumbai, India.
Abstract: Mumbai's growing population has led to an increasing demand for water supply. Powai Lake, constructed in 1891 by the British, was initially intended to provide potable water to the city. However, due to industrial pollution and human activities, its water quality deteriorated, making it unfit for human consumption. Currently, Powai Lake supplies water primarily to Aarey Colony and nearby industries. Despite various cleaning efforts, the lake continues to suffer from environmental degradation. Addressing global freshwater scarcity, which ranks second only to climate change, requires urgent measures. Proper cleaning and regular physicochemical analysis could potentially restore Powai Lake as a viable water source. This paper highlights the historical significance, pollution concerns, and the necessity of water quality improvement strategies for Powai Lake
