Leveraging Waste Management as a Social Enterprise to Create Job Opportunities and Drive Rural Upliftment in India

India's rural communities face pressing issues such as economic underdevelopment, unemployment, and poor waste management infrastructure. While urban centers are increasingly adopting waste-to-wealth initiatives, rural areas often remain underserved, contributing to environmental degradation and missed economic opportunities. This paper explores how waste management, when approached as a social enterprise, can simultaneously address waste management and employment generation, particularly in rural India. By developing sustainable waste management practices, empowering youth with skills, and fostering entrepreneurship, waste management has the potential to drive rural upliftment. The paper proposes an actionable framework for scaling waste management as a social enterprise across rural India, emphasizing innovation, community participation, and policy support. Keywords: Social enterprise, waste management, rural upliftment, employment, innovation, sustainability, youth empowerment, circular economy, India.
