Review on the techniques for the detection of young exoplanetary systems

The detection of young exoplanetary systems is important because it allows to understand their architecture at the moment of their formation also giving hints on the planets formation process. Despite recent progresses, however, large part of the known exoplanets up to now are in old and evolved systems. I will review the most recent results in the detection of young (up to few tens of Myr) exoplanets giving particular evidence to the direct imaging technique, at the moment the more effective in detecting such objects. Moreover, I will also discuss the most important advancements in the theory of the planetary formation that such discoveries allowed.

Abstract

The detection of young exoplanetary systems is important because it allows to understand their architecture at the moment of their formation also giving hints on the planets formation process. Despite recent progresses, however, large part of the known exoplanets up to now are in old and evolved systems. I will review the most recent results in the detection of young (up to few tens of Myr) exoplanets giving particular evidence to the direct imaging technique, at the moment the more effective in detecting such objects. Moreover, I will also discuss the most important advancements in the theory of the planetary formation that such discoveries allowed.
