THE INFLUENCE OF THE VOLUME OF SURGICAL INTERVENTION ON THE HEMATOLOGICAL, AUTOIMMUNE AND HORMONAL STATUS OF PATIENTS WITH AUTOIMMUNE THYROIDITIS
A total of 36 patients with AIT and anemia were examined (mean age 44.1±1.7 years). Mild anemia was detected in 34 patients (94.4%), moderate anemia - in 2 patients (5.6%). Total thyroidectomy in patients with AIT and anemia leads to termination of the autoimmune process and improvement of hematological parameters against the background of euthyroidism. Preservation of thyroid tissue during subtotal thyroidectomy in this group of individuals apparently contributes to further aggravation of autoimmune disorders and deterioration of hematological parameters, despite the euthyroid hormonal background of patients one year after surgery.
