Technical Note on Vodafone Atmospheric Data Assessment Validation

This document presents the technical assessment of Vodafone’s pilot project “Vodafone Air QualityData, Network as a Sensor”. The project is composed of three distinct kinds of atmosphericproducts:• meteorological stations (hosted on passive telecoms infrastructure, Vantage Towers),• air quality ground-based sensors,• precipitation intensity retrieval from wireless links (virtual rain gauges). The pilot project is started in 2022, comprising different test phases.Meteorological stations are produced by SENTEC and perform direct measurements ofatmospheric parameters (temperature, pressure, relative humidity etc.) [RD-1] and were installedacross Spain.Air quality sensors are produced by KUNAK AIR and perform direct measurements of oxidesconcentrations (carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, etc.) and particulate matters (PM 1, 2.5 etc.).The complete list of air quality sensors parameters is summarized in Table 5.1. Air quality sensorswere installed in Glasgow city. The produced data are ground based, obtained from network of sensors or in the case ofprecipitation intensity retrieved from wireless links of Vodafone’s infrastructure (antennas-antennas5G signals). The rain intensity retrieval has been performed by Wireless DNA. The scope of theproject is to use the Vodafone’s infrastructure to mount the sensors and provide environmental dataservice. This infrastructure can deliver real-time data high resolution in space and time broad spatialcoverage (more than 140K sites).
