Developing an Algorithm for Direct Color Hillshade Creation from LAS (by interpolation), ASCII DEMs, and any Active DEM Layers

With SGIS, the process of generating color hillshade DEMs has been significantly streamlined to enhance usability. Users can now open LAS files to directly interpolate a color hillshade DEM or load an ASCII DEM, select an elevation-based color ramp, and have SGIS automatically generate a colorized hillshade DEM. This DEM can then be exported seamlessly as either a DEM or a raster image file (georeferenced raster image file). Unlike traditional methods requiring multiple styling adjustments or layer blending, SGIS consolidates this into a single, efficient step, producing the color hillshade instantly. This functionality is accessible through several loading options, and in the following sections, we demonstrate each with practical examples to illustrate their applications and outcomes.
