A Scientific and Experiential Review of Music Therapy Techniques with a Focus on Rhythm in Neurodevelopmental Rehabilitation
This article presents an experiential and scientific review of music therapy techniques for children with cerebral palsy and autism. Drawing from the author's direct teaching experience, the paper explores how rhythmic games and the Iranian percussion instrument "Tombak" can improve motor coordination, sensory processing, and cognitive engagement in children with developmental challenges. The use of rhythm-based movement games such as "Boom and Beam" and exercises involving Tombak techniques like "Rast," "Chap," "Back," and "Pelang" are examined for their role in enhancing attention, bilateral coordination, and active participation. The study suggests that rhythmic music therapy may serve as a practical, engaging approach to support neurodevelopmental rehabilitation in children.
