Accretion properties of young stellar objects in low-metallicity environments

Although substantial progress has been made in our understanding of star formation, the impacts of environment and its implications for planet formation is still of great debate. The studies of more extreme and more distant regions than the typical star forming regions near the Sun need high sensitivity and spatial resolution. Here, we present observations of young stellar objects (YSOs) in low-metallicity clusters of the outer Galaxy and the Small Magellanic Cloud observed with the ground-based MODS@LBT and space-based NIRSpec@JWST spectrographs. These YSO candidates were first selected through the combination of a mid-infrared and optical Spitzer/IRAC surveys with optical and near-infrared catalogues and through HST photometric bands. The spectroscopic observations are allowing us to reveal a significant fraction of still actively accreting objects at ages older than 10-20Myr and with masses in the range 0.5-2 Msun, contrarily to previously thought. These findings have profound implications for our understanding of the formation of stars in environments with metallicity similar to those in place at Cosmic Noon.
