Integrating API Testing and Observability: Leveraging Postman and Splunk for Real-Time Database Monitoring and Analytics

- APIs serve as the connectors between digital services, thus in today’s hyper-connected world, they have become the bedrock of business success by enabling accelerated data and resource sharing across geographies and tools. Business users use applications that rely on APIs. For example, an airline user may open a travel website that has flight information for various airlines, book the selected flight, and make a final payment. End-user outside-in Application Performance Management (APM), but what about the internal APIs that connect the application to its back-end services? True positive detections of downstream issues with the right severity and impact are necessary to not cause setbacks or disruptions to the larger business objectives. In this mobile and cloud-first world, businesses need to run 24/7. Web pages continuously refresh and thus generate traffic at all hours of the day and days of the week, making it difficult for APM teams to analyze each segment of traffic in detail. This is where shifting left (early detection) becomes important using constant monitoring of inserts, updates, deletes through the APIs that interact with the various back-end Database Management Systems
