CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS FOR MICRO HYDROPOWER PLANTS IN ARTIFICIAL WATERCOURSES

this study investigates the common technical, operational, and environmental challenges facing micro hydropower plants installed in artificial watercourses. Using a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative performance metrics and qualitative case studies, we analyze data from 47 installations across varied geographical and hydrological conditions. Results indicate that sedimentation, flow variability, and grid integration present the most significant operational challenges, while environmental concerns primarily relate to aquatic ecosystem disruption and water quality alterations. The study proposes integrated technical solutions and management strategies to optimize MHPP performance in artificial channel environments. These findings contribute to improving the reliability and sustainability of small-scale hydropower developments in engineered waterways

Abstract

this study investigates the common technical, operational, and environmental challenges facing micro hydropower plants installed in artificial watercourses.
