Development and Characterization of Carbon Nanotube-Based Bucky Paper for Emerging Nano- Applications
AbstractBucky paper, a macroscopic aggregate of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) arranged into a freestanding, flexible film, hasemerged as a promising nanomaterial with exceptional physicochemical properties. This study investigates the synthesis, structural characterization, and multifunctional applications of bucky paper fabricated using high-purity single-walled andmulti-walled carbon nanotubes via Vacuum Filtration Techniques. Emphasis is placed on optimizing dispersion techniquesto enhance inter-tube connectivity and utilizing surfactants to achieve uniform CNT alignment and film homogeneity.Tensile strengths exceeding 150 MPa and Young’s moduli in the GPa range, with electrical conductivities surpassing 104S/m, highlighting the material’s potential as a structural-electrical hybrid. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) andAtomic Force Microscopy (AFM) elucidate the film morphology and interfacial characteristics. This research underscoresthe versatility of bucky paper as a next-generation nanomaterial platform, bridging nanoscale properties with macroscaleapplications, and sets the foundation for its integration into advanced multifunctional devices across energy, aerospace, biomedical, and electronic sectors.
