Optimized Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with Enhanced S-Box and Automated Key Generation
The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a widely used encryption algorithm crucial for ensuring data security. One of its key components, the Substitution Box (S-box), enhances security by introducing confusion and diffusion during encryption. However, conventional S-box implementations using Look-Up Tables (LUTs) or embedded memory often introduce significant path delay overhead and are vulnerable to cryptographic attacks. This paper presents an optimized composite field arithmetic-based approach for Sub-bytes and Inverse Sub-bytes operations, addressing these challenges. The proposed design integrates higher-order transformations and inner-stage pipelining schemes, improving throughput and reducing latency. The AES cryptosystem is implemented using VHDL and synthesized with the Xilinx ISE tool, demonstrating an efficient, hardware-optimized encryption model. This approach enhances both performance and security, making it a viable solution for real-time cryptographic applications.
