Virtual Reality - Suspension in the In-Between
Social media can be regarded as a conceptual district in cyberspace that is entered mentally. Imagination must be employed to visualise and attach meaning to the abstract area. Conceptualising social media as a void illustrates how the non-place removes lifeworld limitations and induces unreality. The impact of social media on reality can be understood through the implementation of political anthropology as a method. It offers a way to understand the world through liminal moments. The distinction between the physical world and the virtual networking realm is distorted by the potentiality and prospects embedded in social media. Social media generates virtual reality, which is a product of technological manufacturing. The virtual is replacing the real and society is ignoring the previous set limits of everyday reality. Virtual reality can be considered as a parasitical site that imitates both the real everyday reality and the realm of social media.
