Tomato Pomace - Technical Report

Tomato pomace is the solid residue obtained after the industrial processing of tomatoes for products such as pulp, concentrate, or juice. Its composition primarily includes skins (peels), seeds, and small amounts of pulp. Although often considered a by-product, tomato pomace possesses signif i cant nutritional and functional attributes, particularly valuable for animal feed and potential biofuel production. Its high moisture content in fresh form necessitates proper storage and preservation methods to prevent microbial spoilage. A rigorous and critical evaluation of tomato pomace can illuminate its advantages, limitations, and emerging opportunities for valorisation, thereby promoting a more sustainable use of available resources. Because it is rich in organic matter and nutrients, tomato pomace has gained attention as a value-added resource rather than waste. Ef f ective utilization of this pomace can reduce environmental pollution from discarded residues and contribute to circular economy ef f orts by recycling nutrients.
