High-z AGNs at the end of the Dark Ages
Astonishing results have been recently obtained for the population ofhigh-z AGNs from deep JWST observations and wide ground based surveys, well within the Reionization epoch and close to the end of the DarkAges. The most relevant novelties are the large space density of faintAGNs at z>4, their extreme weakness in X-ray luminosities, theirover-massive SMBHs with respect to the expectation from local scalingrelations, the coevolution with their host galaxies, and theunexpectedly emergence of the previously unknown population of LittleRed Dots. In this talk, I will discuss the implications of theseunexpected results on the nature of the sources driving theReionization process and on the seeding of early SMBHs. Finalperspective will be dedicated to the possible expectations fromongoing and future observational facilities like Euclid, Vera RubinLSST, and ELT on the statistical and physical properties of the high-zAGNs, that will reserve us many other surprises in the near future.
