During the time when the patriarchal society emerged, the decline of the female race began. On realizing the need for women to respect themselves as human beings, women all over the world started to rise together and raise their voices. In that way, the poet Kanthukam has given voice to the lives of women through the poem “Rojakal Kaipadthillai”. One can see lots of news related to women in this collection of poems. Societal structure has been the fundamental reason for the emergence of feminist thought. Men, through their dominance, brought an end to the matrilineal social system and established a patrilineal one. As a result, the leadership of women disappeared giving rise to male dominance. From birth to death, a woman finds herself in a position where she must constantly struggle against patriarchal ideologies at every stage of her life. In such a context the poet Kanthukam has created the poetry collection “Rojakkal Kalippathillai” which serves as a platform for the powerful voice of women to resonate in poetic form.
