The Theoretical and Practical issues of Linguistics
Abstract. This work explores the multifaceted field of linguistics, examining both its theoretical underpinnings and its practical applications. It delves into core theoretical debates, such as the innateness of language and the interplay between language and thought, while also outlining the hierarchical structure of language, from phonology and phonetics to morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Furthermore, the study investigates the diverse practical applications of linguistics, encompassing language education, natural language processing, forensic linguistics, sociolinguistics, clinical linguistics, and language documentation and revitalization. By bridging the gap between abstract theory and real-world impact, this exploration aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the key issues and challenges facing the field of linguistics today, highlighting its enduring significance in understanding human communication and cognition.
