Design and Analysis of High Speed FSO System for Next Generation Cellular Networks

Abstract.Free Space Optics is a promising technology for 5G wireless systems because of unlicensedspectrum, low latency, high bandwidth, and reliable security. The high data rate capability of FSO system makes itgood option for 5G and beyond Wireless networks. However, with all these benefits, FSO systems face a mainchallenge which is atmospheric turbulence. Atmospheric turbulence is caused by random fluctuations of refractiveindex along the propagation path. In this paper, Advanced Digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms are proposedfor compensation of the phase and amplitude mismatches. Dual polarization technique is used to improve theperformance of the system in terms of data rate. We used optical system and MATLAB tools for developing thissystem. The system performance has been checked at various link range and divergence angles. It was observed thatwith the increasing divergence angles and link ranges system performance degrades. From Results it is evident thatour desired system achieves lower Bit error rate (BER) of 10-10 and reliable transmission rate of 70Gbps. It isconcluded that our designed FSO system fulfils the requirements of next generation cellular networks.
