Unifying Dark Matter and Dark Energy A Unified Field Theory Proposal

Abstract: The existence of dark matter and dark energy—which together account for approximately 95% of the universe's total energy density—remains one of the greatest unresolved challenges in modern physics. While dark matter is hypothesized to explain gravitational anomalies in galaxies and large-scale structures, dark energy is invoked to account for the observed cosmic acceleration. Despite their apparent differences, several modified gravity models, scalar field theories, and extra-dimensional frameworks suggest that these two phenomena could be manifestations of a single underlying field or interaction. This paper proposes a Unified Field Theory (UFT) approach that models dark matter and dark energy as different phases or manifestations of a single fundamental field, potentially arising from quantum vacuum fluctuations, holographic principles, or an extended gravitational interaction. We analyze how scalar-tensor theories, modified Einstein-Hilbert actions, and geometric extensions of spacetime could naturally lead to an effective unification of these components without requiring separate exotic matter sources. Using cosmological perturbation theory, large-scale structure constraints, and gravitational wave signatures, we examine how this approach could be distinguished from the standard ΛCDM paradigm. Key Highlights: Proposing a unified field approach to explain both dark matter and dark energy. Exploring scalar-tensor theories, extra-dimensional gravity, and modified Einstein equations. Mathematical formulation of a single field generating both dark sector effects. Observational constraints from gravitational waves, cosmic microwave background, and large-scale structure. Potential experimental and astrophysical tests to distinguish this theory from ΛCDM cosmology. By merging quantum field theory, modified gravity, and observational cosmology, this work provides a comprehensive framework for a unified dark sector, offering a testable alternative to conventional explanations. Keywords: Dark matter, dark energy, unified field theory, modified gravity, quantum vacuum, extra dimensions, ΛCDM alternatives, scalar fields, cosmic acceleration, large-scale structure formation.
