Legal Implications Of Global Temperature Rise On India's Environmental Framework

Global temperature rise, a core component of climate change, poses significant threats to India’s ecosystems, economy, and society. As a signatory to major international environmental treaties, India has developed a diverse legal framework to manage these risks. However, the acceleration of climate impacts—such as glacial retreat, extreme weather events, biodiversity loss, and rising sea levels—has exposed several gaps in environmental legislation, governance, and enforcement mechanisms. This study critically examines the legal implications of global temperature rise on India’s environmental policy and regulatory structures. Through a multidisciplinary approach, combining legal analysis with climate science and policy review, the research highlights institutional challenges, judicial responses, and legislative innovations. The findings reveal a need for a more adaptive, inclusive, and climate-resilient legal framework that integrates socio-environmental justice and anticipatory governance.
