Cultural Heritage and Socio-Economic Significance of the Karvat Kathi Saree: A Comprehensive Awareness Study
Abstract The Karvat Kathi saree, an exquisite example of traditional Indian handloom weaving, originates from Maharashtra's Vidarbha region. Despite its rich heritage, the saree has struggled to retain prominence amidst industrialization and fast fashion. This paper aims to provide an elaborate awareness discourse on the cultural, technical, and socio-economic aspects of the Karvat Kathi saree. Through an interdisciplinary lens, we explore the origins, unique design characteristics, weaving techniques, the status of artisans, challenges to sustainability, and strategies for revival and promotion
