EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL SUPPORT AND ACADEMIC STRESS ON ENGINEERING STUDENTS' RESILIENCY
This study explores the interplay between social support, academic stress, and resiliency in university-based engineering students. The rigorous demands of engineering programs can create heightened levels of stress that can affect student well-being and academic performance. Previous research has demonstrated the important role social support plays in alleviating the negative impacts of academic stress but has not shown a detailed focus on resiliency in engineering students. The study takes a theoretical approach to understand how social support differs according its type - peer, family, and institutional - and how this establishes resiliency in potentially stressful academic environments. The literature review outlines some of the aspects that students face in terms of coping with stress and resiliency. The discussion section presents possible implications for developing potential support structures in universities. Overall, acknowledging these dimensions can help support reported interventions for student well-being and academic performance.
