QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF CARBONYL COMPOUNDS IN PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS BY VARIOUS ANALYTICAL METHODS
The accurate quantification of carbonyl compounds, including aldehydes and ketones, is of paramount importance in pharmaceutical analysis due to their presence in both active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and degradation products. The formation of carbonyls can significantly impact the stability, efficacy, and safety of pharmaceutical formulations. This review discusses various analytical techniques employed for the quantitative determination of carbonyl compounds in pharmaceutical drugs. Methods such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), spectrophotometry (e.g., DNPH derivatization), and electrochemical approaches are explored, highlighting their advantages and limitations.
