CURRENT ISSUES OF TRANSLATION STUDIES

Abstract. Translation Studies has evolved significantly over the past few decades, yet several ongoing issues continue to shape its development. Key challenges include the tension between fidelity to the source text and the need for cultural adaptation in translation, especially in light of globalization and digital communication. The rise of machine translation and artificial intelligence has introduced new complexities related to the role of human translators and the ethical implications of technology in translation. Furthermore, Translation Studies is grappling with the need to address power dynamics, linguistic hegemony, and postcolonial perspectives in cross-cultural communication. The discipline also faces challenges in integrating diverse theoretical frameworks, such as feminist, queer, and decolonial approaches, that highlight the sociopolitical dimensions of translation. Lastly, the increasing demand for interdisciplinary collaboration with fields like cognitive science, literature, and communication studies has expanded the scope of translation research. These issues underline the need for a more inclusive and dynamic approach to Translation Studies that reflects the evolving linguistic and cultural landscape of the 21st century.
