Denguard: A Mobile-Based Dengue Awareness and Reporting System

Denguard: A Mobile-Based Dengue Awareness and Reporting System Dengue fever poses a severe threat to public health in Bangladesh, with major outbreaks in 2019 and 2023 causing hundreds of thousands of cases and significant strain on healthcare infrastructure. Traditional surveillance systems have proven inadequate in rapidly detecting and preventing outbreaks, particularly in under-reported rural areas. To address this challenge, we developed Denguard, a cross-platform mobile application aimed at increasing community-based dengue awareness and real-time reporting. Denguard combines several innovative features: geo-tagged dengue case reporting, a bilingual AI-powered chatbot for symptom checking and prevention education, image-based mosquito hotspot reporting, and an interactive dashboard for real-time data visualization. The system integrates Google’s Flutter for the front-end, Firebase for cloud storage, and Dialogflow for natural language processing, ensuring a scalable and user-friendly experience. Additionally, Denguard incorporates a machine learning-based forecasting model that visualizes dengue risk periods using accessible color coding. By empowering citizens with timely information and enabling direct communication with health authorities, Denguard promotes early detection, proactive prevention, and collective community action. This mobile health (mHealth) solution has the potential to significantly improve dengue surveillance, reduce disease spread, and strengthen public health initiatives in resource-limited settings like Bangladesh.
