Summary. The study presents the situation of the ecclesiastical buildings in Oltenia (Olt counties and Romanet) after the Second World War and until the fall of the communist regime (1989). State and party authorities monitored the religious heritage, often changing its destination. Case studies of maintenance of places of worship are presented. There were uncertain periods, in which the religious settlements were practically abandoned, but we also note periods of revival.Key words: ecclesiastical heritage, churches, monasteries, clergy, communist regime, Oltenia, Romania.
