The Language Teacher – a Postmodern Challenge
Starting from the postmodern idea of construction, we attempt to clarify, in general terms, the vision of Eugen Coșeriu regarding the need for a language teacher, bringing into discussion aspects of language and communication that identify this idea. In this context, the methodological orientation suggested by Eugen Coșeriu is treated as a didactic axiom. This issue brings the analysis back to the real postmodern context of pedagogy and offers the possibility of a concept of language in direct relation to its functionality. We carried out an analysis that highlights language in relation to the one who is meant to form it, shape it, develop it, and analyze it reflexively – the language teacher. It is precisely in this that the continuous actuality of language analysis from a pedagogical perspective lies. Going through the ideas of Eugen Coșeriu, we tried to list the landmarks and aspects that support, in one way or another, the need for a language teacher. Although the limits of these aspects are very loose, an attempt is made to identify in this movement an “average” that can represent the concept, without operating a too pronounced reduction of the phenomenon as such.
