Avalon Media System

Avalon Media System is an open-source application for media access and management. Designed for the needs of libraries and archives, this presentation will focus on some of the features that make Avalon unique: automatic media transcoding, structured metadata for objects and files, and flexible access control and user management based on users, groups, and IP addresses. I'll also talk about how Avalon works with other platforms and services, such as the use of IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) across the application for consistent interoperability with other tools. Other features like the ability to upload from cloud storage services like Google Drive, an ingest API for creating and editing records, and LTI support for course reserves through Canvas or other Learning Management Systems will also be shared. The current and future roadmap for Avalon will also be discussed, including recent updates like Fedora 6 support, UI work to meet accessibility guidelines, and enhanced search and display for transcript documents.
