Misuse of Inflation Metrics Amid Structural Crises: A Case Study of Iran
Inflation metrics are often used as key indicators of economic health. However, in societies facing structural crises such as institutional corruption, economic inefficiency, or social inequality, governments may misuse these metrics to obscure deeper issues. This paper, framed within the concept of "crisis plus one," examines how an overemphasis on inflation metrics can serve as a tool to divert attention from structural problems in Iran. By analyzing economic data and historical examples, it demonstrates that such misuse not only fails to address underlying issues but also exacerbates social and economic instability.
