The Role of Water in Therapeutic Interventions: A Scientific Perspective

Abstract: Water is a fundamental therapeutic agent in Ayurveda and modern medicine, contributing to detoxification, pain relief, and mental well-being. Ayurvedic therapies such as Panchakarma, Swedana Karma, and Anupana support toxin elimination, rejuvenation, and disease prevention. Rooted in ancient wisdom, these treatments emphasize holistic healing and disease prevention. Modern hydrotherapy, including balneotherapy and thermal water treatments, has been scientifically validated for reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and supporting rehabilitation. This study reviews Ayurvedic and modern water-based therapies, analyzing their mechanisms, benefits, and scientific validation. Findings indicate that while Ayurvedic water therapies align with modern hydrotherapy principles, their potential can be further harnessed through clinical validation and adaptation to contemporary healthcare. Standardized protocols can help integrate Ayurvedic hydrotherapy into preventive and rehabilitative medicine. Future research should focus on comparative trials and interdisciplinary collaboration to bridge traditional and modern water therapies in clinical practice
