The article reveals the content of the concept of "tradition" and its significance in folk art in different periods of studying traditional arts and crafts. The role of tradition in the development of modern art of Bogorodsk wood carving is analyzed using the example of understanding the artistic features of the works of the artist of Bogorodsk carving, teacher of the Bogorodsk branch of the Higher School of Folk Arts Vaisero V.F. and her students from the point of view of preserving traditions and innovations in the creation of modern sculptures of Bogorodsk plastic art.
