Flaxseed and Omega-3s: Nutritional Potential in the Management of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders
Flaxseed is being talked about as a functional food with a good amount of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), lignans, and dietary fiber working together to exert their favorable effects on cardiovascular and metabolic health. The review discusses a variety of mechanisms flaxseed can use in prevention and management of metabolic disorders like type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disorder. Clinical studies and meta-analyses showed that flaxseed intake may confer modest, consistent health benefits on various markers, including blood pressure, lipid profile, insulin sensitivity, and glycemic regulation. Even if the incorporation of ALA into long-chain omega-3 fatty acids is poor, ALA itself is beneficial for health. The article also suggests that future studies should investigate areas such as bioavailability, synergism among nutrients, and personalization to derive maximum therapeutic efficacy from flaxseed. Flaxseed thus stands out as a safe, cheap, and evidence-based dietary option against chronic metabolic disorders.
